I’ve tried using The Secret in the past. I don’t know whether it was because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind or because I didn’t have the patience, but I never felt like it really worked for me. I’m now in a position where I need to make some major changes in my life, and I thought it would be an interesting experiment to hand my fate over to the universe and see what kind of difference The Secret could make to my life if I really applied myself to the project.
Time Frame and Schedule
I’ve decided on a six month time frame. The Secret book has six chapters which focus on how we can use the law of attraction in different areas of our lives. I’ve decided to dedicate one month to each of these chapters, where I will focus on these ideas, keeping my overall goals in mind. At the end of each month I will evaluate how I felt I went at practising The Secret, whether there have been any noticeable changes in my life, and what I felt I could improve on. At the end of 2011 I will re-evaluate my project, and note whether it has helped me to achieve my overall goals for 2011.
Here is the schedule which I intend to follow throughout this project.
January 24, 2011: The Secret Life of Megan begins. This first week is to allow myself to become acquainted with The Secret and to get into the right mind set which I will need to successfully complete this project.
February 1, 2011: The Secret to Money. This month’s focus is on using the law of attraction to bring me money. Rather appropriate for helping to achieve goal number one.
March 1, 2011: The Secret to Relationships. I’m already in a relationship, so this month I’ll be focussing on how to improve that relationship using The Secret.
April 1, 2011: The Secret to Health. As the weather starts to get colder it will be interesting to see if I can keep those pesky winter colds at bay.
May 1, 2011: The Secret to the World. I’m not sure I can change the world using The Secret, but I’m certainly going to try changing my world.
June 1, 2011: The Secret to You. I definitely want to learn to change my negative thought patterns into positive ones.
July 1, 2011: The Secret to Life. An appropriate way to finish my project.
July 31, 2011: The Secret Life of Megan ends. I’ll evaluate how I felt the project went overall, if I have seen any results, if there were any areas I had difficulty with, and how I plan to use The Secret in the future.
December 31, 2011: I’ll take a final look at 2011, re-evaluate my project, and conclude whether practising The Secret helped me to achieve my goals. I’ll also look at whether I have chosen to continue practising The Secret.
My Goals
A series of unfortunate events in 2010 (you can read about my misfortune here) allowed me to begin 2011 with some major goals to work towards. These goals have the added challenge that they must be completed in a specific order, because without achieving the first, I cannot achieve the second, and without the second, I cannot achieve the third.
Here they are, listed in the order in which I need to complete them.
1. Find a new job – preferably one which I enjoy, pays well, and lets me use my brain.
2. Move out of home – find a house in a nice neighbourhood, with affordable rent, and which allows pets.
3. Get a kitten – I really, really want a cat. I’m not allowed one while I live at home.
My Hypothesis
Every experiment needs a hypothesis. Having read The Secret I understand that my thoughts and actions can control my destiny. Therefore, for my project to work and for me to achieve my goals, I need to believe that I will succeed at making a difference to my life by practising what I have read in The Secret.
